Description
Button mushrooms have been easily available to people belonging to different classes all over the country at a very low cost, which is mainly due to the quick and inexpensive cultivation of the button mushrooms. It is a protein-rich food, thereby meeting the nutrient requirements of vegetarians without the additional fat content. This edible mushroom is far better than meat because meats promote the accumulation of uric acids in the bone joints, leading to pain in the joints, rheumatic pain, arthritis, etc. After the consumption of button mushrooms as food, the indigenous tribal communities started to discover the medicinal benefits of this mushroom. Keeping in mind the importance of button mushrooms in the lifestyle of low-income people, a phytochemical analysis of these mushrooms was carried out to document the bioactive metabolites. The results revealed the presence of tannins, saponins, reducing sugars, proteins, and carbohydrates after screening of the secondary and primary metabolites, which places the button mushroom as a good source of nutraceuticals.
