Description
India is known as “Land of Medicinal Plants”. It has a rich history of traditional
healing system using more than 8000 medicinal plants. They are the source of
different pharmaceuticals till date. In last decades, due to urbanization,
deforestation, migration of tribal and rural people towards urban areas, breaks
down the chain of traditional healers in knowledge sharing from generation-to-generation, easy availability of allopathic medicines and climatic changes, we are
losing the diversity of medicinal plants. Over-extraction, grazing, and forest fires
are also a cause in the declination of medicinal plants diversity and uses. In this
scenario, documentation of medicinal plants is an important task. The book
entitled “Medicinal Plants of India, Volume – I, a pictorial guide” documented
40 medicinal plants of India along with photographs for easy identification in the
field. The book will be helpful to the students, researchers, academician, policy
makers and local intellectuals.
