Description

The research is about the production of black soap using available raw materials such as plantain peel. The plantain peel is burned to become biochar, which is used as an alkali source for the saponification process. Additionally, plantain peel was also burned in open air to form ash, which was then compared with the plantain peel biochar-produced soap to determine which had more alkali content. The plantain peel ash black soap was found to be more alkaline. The goal was to produce eco-friendly soap free of triclosan and other compounds found in synthetic soap, which have been linked to contributing to skin cancer by other research in the field. Moreover, the soap was compared with other black soaps in terms of foaming, moisture content, ash content, and so on.
