Abstract: The article explores the possible analytic relation between the idea of being a member of a democratic community and having civil, political and welfare (or socio-economic) rights. I call this relation the analytical thesis. After distinguishing a trivial and a non-trivial interpretation of this thesis, I offer some reasons in favor of the latter
