Formation of planetesimals and planets
Description
In this Bridge Talk, we intend to summarize our current understanding of planetesimal and planet formation. For planetesimal formation, we will emphasize recent theoretical and laboratory work on the evolution of dust in protoplanetary disks. We will discuss possible pathways towards planetesimals and their consequences on planetesimal properties, which will be compared to primitive Solar System objects. We will then review what disk observations tell us about the formation of planetary bodies, from the perspective of disk chemistry, morphology, and mass budget. Finally, we will come up with open questions to be addressed in future work.
