DOMIKA: Playing Based Learning in Mathematics

Description

This research and innovation are carried out to help students with learning problems for mathematics
subjects in various topics. The learning method by using old techniques, which are explanations and exercises alone,
is no longer suitable. The most significant problem faced by teachers today is that students are less interested in
mathematics. So indirectly this research and innovation is to overcome the problem of lack of interest of students in
mathematics subjects by using the technique of learning while playing. This study introduces the innovation of the
Domino game in the mathematics subject known as DOMIKA. The method of playing while learning is an effective
learning technique for children. Even this way will also bring pleasure and satisfaction to them in a lesson to be
delivered. The study also looked at the factors of self-motivation that influence the subject's interest and attitude
towards Mathematics subjects before and after the intervention was implemented. Mathematical games need to be
created because the existence of these games can bridge the gap between students' concerns about Mathematics
subjects. The DOMIKA produced in this study includes various topics in mathematics subjects that are currently
studied at the primary school level. It is hoped that DOMIKA can attract students' interest in mastering
mathematics because students who easily master mathematics are usually creative. It is hoped that DOMIKA's
innovative game can increase students' interest in learning mathematics without fear and hopefully the concept of
learning while playing can be used by teachers. DOMIKA's innovation game is seen to be commercialized for several
reasons, one of which is the rules of this game which are very easy to understand, easy to play, easy to learn and very
low cost because it only requires cards like a domino game. Indirectly, the concept of recycling can also be applied
because at the beginning of DOMIKA's production, it only needed used boxes and cardboard to make cards. If
commercialized this card will be more attractive if it is made with different colours. Researchers hope to see
DOMIKA's innovative game on the market as a teaching aid in schools in the future.
