HIGH Horizons - Report on the carbon emission assessment of selected health facilities in Kenya, South Africa, and Zimbabwe

The purpose of this carbon assessment report (Deliverable 2.11) is to quantify and understand the carbon emissions associated with private and public healthcare facilities in Kenya, South Africa and Zimbabwe. The report highlights the importance of conducting carbon assessments in healthcare settings, supported by relevant sources and citations.

The assessments aim to provide valuable insights into the environmental impact of these facilities. We additionally developed a modelling tool, CARBOMICA, which assists in the strategic allocation of resources to optimize the reduction of carbon emissions at these health facilities. By identifying the key sources of carbon emissions and recommending targeted mitigation measures using CARBOMICA, the report seeks to support the transition towards sustainable and low-carbon healthcare systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC).
