Agroforestry in the Revised LULUCF Regulation
Description
The European Agroforestry Federation (EURAF) lobbied before the plenary parliamentary session on the revised LULUCF Regulation that MEPs should retain the commitment to carbon neutrality in the integrated “Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use” (AFOLU) sector by 2035: with this integrated sector following IPCC guidelines from 20 years ago. While the neutrality commitment was removed by Parliament, EURAF is happy with the mentions of agroforestry in the Regulation and feels that a large programme of planting of Trees outside Forests (ToF) is needed immediately if the enhanced EU target of -310 M tonnes CO2 equivalent sequestration is to be met by 2030.
