The article focuses on the analysis of original William Blake’s poem ―The Lily‖ and its two
translations in the terms of textual depth. Textual depth is taken for one of the translation adequacy
estimation criteria.
The high relevance of the research is connected with the difficulties that occur during translation
adequacy estimation despite of existing of numerals criteria.
The research aims to estimate translation adequacy in the terms of textual depth. Due to this
aim the objective (to analyze the original William Blake’s poem ―The Lily‖ and its two translations in
the terms of textual depth) was set.
Such characteristics of text paradigmatic organization, as composition, configuration, relevance, function
and communication paradigms between paradigms were taken into account during the research.
The research was conducted within the functional approach to the text and its units. Laws of
the texts’ organization, the actualization of the language system are studied not separately, but due to
their correlation with types of human communicative and cognitive activity.
Following conclusion was made as the result of the research. The translation adequacy is
more if the translation paradigmatic organization is closer to the original one.
