Description

Ourapteryx cawarongensis Cheng & Jiang, sp. nov. (Figs 3, 22, 41)

Thorax. Patagia, tegulae and thorax white. Legs white, black patches present between femora and tibia of fore- and median legs, hind tibia dilated in male, with hair-pencil, both sexes with two pairs of spurs. Forewing length: male 25 mm; female 29–30 mm. Forewing with outer margin straight. Hind wing with a moderately long tail, tip acute, shoulder prominent. Wings white. Forewing with antemedial and postmedial lines straight, oblique, narrow, pale grey and former nearer to latter on anal margin than on costa; discal spot linear and pale grey; submarginal area densely diffused by pale grey short striation; terminal line black, invisible near apex and anal angle; fringes mostly pale yellowish brown, white near apex and anal angle. Hind wing with discal spot indistinct; medial line straight, pale grey, not extending to costa and anal margin; pale grey striation densely diffused at submarginal area; terminal line black, invisible near shoulder and tip of tail and anal angle; fringes mostly reddish brown, pale near shoulder and tip of tail and anal angle; tail with one spot at base, dark red, surrounded with black scales. Underside white, transverse lines faintly indicated. Forewing with R 1 and R 2 coincident.

Abdomen. Abdomen white with setal comb on third sternite.

Male genitalia. Uncus stout with acute apex. Socii small and membranous. Gnathos with median process broad tongue-like. Valva simple, rounded apically; costa straight. Furca developed on right side, incurved in a right angle at apical one-fourth, slightly broad apically, terminating with a dense row of thorns, reaching slightly beyond median process of gnathos. Saccus very short, rounded at apex. Aedeagus cylindrical; vesica with a sclerotized plate densely covered with numerous short cornuti, all of similar size.

Female genitalia. Lamella postvaginalis and lamella antevaginalis almost semicircle and crinkled, latter smaller, about two-thirds length of former. Colliculum present. Ductus bursae with longitudinal ribs, weakly sclerotized at posterior two-thirds. Corpus bursae globular, about two-thirds length of ductus bursae, bearing a signum centrally; signum rounded with short marginal spines, disc small and rounded.

Diagnosis. The diagnosis by external characters see O. arcuata Jiang & Cheng, sp. nov. The male genitalia of the species are similar to O. pallistrigaria Stüning, 1994 (Fig. 23) and O. postflavata Stüning, 1994 (Fig. 24), only the furca is weakly incurved in a right angle. The female genitalia are almost identical to O. arcuata Jiang & Cheng, sp. nov., only the disc is smaller.

Etymology. The specific name is named after the type locality.
