Description

Pursuing a Master of Arts in Nursing (MAN) degree is a significant endeavor, marked by challenges and triumphs that shape the journey of graduate students. This phenomenological study aimed to explore the lived experiences of graduate students enrolled in MAN programs, shedding light on their journey towards degree completion. By delving into their narratives, this research seeks to uncover the multifaceted aspects of their academic pursuit, highlighting both the struggles and successes encountered along the way. Utilizing phenomenology as the research approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 graduate students enrolled in MAN programs. Thematic analysis was employed to identify recurring patterns and themes within their narratives, providing a comprehensive understanding of their lived experiences. Seven overarching themes emerged from the analysis, including (1) Academic Challenges, (2) Personal Sacrifices, (3) Support Systems, (4) Professional Growth, (5) Time Management, (6) Self-Discovery, and (7) Future Aspirations. These themes illuminate the diverse array of experiences encountered by graduate students in their journey towards achieving their MAN degree, underscoring the resilience and determination exhibited amidst adversity. The findings of this study offer valuable implications for nursing education institutions, faculty members, and policymakers in addressing the unique needs of graduate students pursuing MAN degrees. Recommendations include the development of tailored support programs, fostering mentorship opportunities, and promoting self-care strategies to enhance student well-being and academic success. Additionally, creating a conducive learning environment that recognizes and celebrates the diverse experiences of graduate students is essential for nurturing a culture of inclusivity and empowerment within nursing education.
