Seeing Hypersexual Disorder for the Disease it Is (Pilot Study)

Description

This is a pilot study in response to the American Psychological Association (APA) assertion that Hypersexual Disorder is not a diagnosable mental condition and their choice to exclude it from the Diagnostic Statistic Manual Volume 5 (DSM V).  The researcher used a combination of grounded theory and case study methodologies.  The study found a moderate correlation behind the frequency of sexually addictive behavior and interference with daily life.  Further found in this study was a strong correlation between Life Coaching Sessions and overall life contentment as well as overall life functioning with respect to the sex addiction.  Participants in this study came from the Andre County  Support Group (a fictitious name).  Membership in this group is an average of 20 persons countywide per group.  There are 10 different groups in this county.  Thus, the pilot study used 10% of the average number of participants, which met very stringent criteria.

This study has resulted in the finding of a potential new theory.  Contrary to the APA's assertion that Hypersexual Disorder (HD) is not a diagnosable illness, the researcher has determined that HD is a diagnosable illness mitigated in part by the use of life coaching techniques.  However, this theory will be confirmed through the use of a larger scale study in the near future.
