Type Locality: Ampitambè forest (NE Betsileo, Madagascar) [Locality uncertain, discussed by MacPhee (1987) and Carleton and Schmidt (1990); c. 20°22’S 47°46’E, see Carleton and Schmidt (1990)].

Vernacular Names: Thomas's Shrew Tenrec.

Distribution: Eastern humid forest, and central highlands, E and SE Madagascar.

Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable.
