Heteromys (Xylomys) nelsoni Merriam 1902

Heteromys (Xylomys) nelsoni Merriam 1902, Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash., 15: 43.

Type Locality: Mexico, Chiapas, Pinabete, 8,200 ft. (2,499 m).

Vernacular Names: Nelson's Spiny Pocket Mouse.

Distribution: Known only from S Chiapas (Mexico) and W Guatemala.

Conservation: IUCN – Critically Endangered.

Discussion: Type species of subgenus Xylomys Merriam, which is of debatable validity (R. P. Anderson, pers. comm.). Reviewed by Rogers and Rogers (1992 b, Mammalian Species No. 397).
