Type Locality: Brazil, Mato Grosso, Cuiaba (= Cuyaba).
Vernacular Names: Big Naked-backed Bat.
Synonyms: Pteronotus (Pteronotus) centralis Goodwin 1942; Pteronotus (Pteronotus) suapurensis J. A. Allen 1904.
Distribution: S Veracruz (Mexico) south to Peru, NE and C Brazil, Bolivia, Guyana, and French Guiana.
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Pteronotus. Includes suapurensis; see Smith (1977).
