Description

Hemitragus hylocrius (Ogilby 1837)

[Hemitragus] hylocrius (Ogilby 1837), Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1837: 81.

Type Locality: India, "Neilgherry Hills" (Nilgiri Hills).

Vernacular Names: Nilgiri Tahr.

Distribution: S India (Western Ghats along border between Kerala and Tamil Nadu).

Conservation: IUCN – Endangered.

Discussion: Included in jemlahicus by Haltenorth (1963:125) but generally regarded as a full species, for example by Corbet and Hill (1991).
