Pronolagus randensis Jameson 1907, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., ser. 7, 20: 404.

Type Locality: "Observatory Kopje...Johannesburg...Witwatersrand Range, Transvaal... 5,900 ft. " [1,798 m] [South Africa].

Vernacular Names: Jameson's Red Rock Hare.

Subspecies::

Subspecies Pronolagus randensis subsp. randensis Jameson 1907

Subspecies Pronolagus randensis subsp. caucinus Thomas 1929

Subspecies Pronolagus randensis subsp. whitei Roberts 1938

Distribution: Two disjunct areas: NE South Africa, E Botswana to extreme W Mozambique, Zimbabwe; and W Namibia, perhaps SW Angola.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Formerly included in crassicaudatus by Lundholm (1955 a); but see Petter (1972 b: 6). The systematic position of the two widely disjunct populations needs clarification (Duthie and Robinson, 1990).
