Type Locality: "One mile [1.6 km] west of Guerneville, Sonoma County, California." [USA].
Vernacular Names: Sonoma Chipmunk.

Subspecies Tamias (Neotamias) sonomae subsp. alleni A. H. Howell 1922
Distribution: NW California, from San Francisco Bay north to Siskiyou Co. (USA).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Neotamias. Reviewed by Best (1993 c, Mammalian Species No. 444).
