Tamiasciurus mearnsi Townsend 1897

Tamiasciurus mearnsi Townsend 1897, Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash., 11: 146.

Type Locality: "San Pedro Martir Mountains, Lower California (altitude about 7,000 feet)" [Baja California Norte, Mexico, 2134 m].

Vernacular Names: Mearns's Squirrel.

Distribution: Sierra San Pedro Martir Mtns (Baja California Norte, Mexico).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Formerly included in douglasii; see Lindsay (1981). Arbogast et al. (2001) found that mitochondrial DNA differed only slightly among the three species of Tamiasciurus.
