Discussion: Tribe Microsciurini according to Moore (1959). Goodwin (1946) suggested that Syntheosciurus might be a subgenus of Sciurus; but see Heaney and Hoffmann (1978), Enders (1980), and Hall (1981:438). Moore (1959:179) included Mesosciurus (granatensis, pyrrhinus) as a subgenus, but see Sciurus.
