Mesoplodon stejnegeri True 1885, Proc. U. S. Natl. Mus., 8: 584.

Type Locality: Russia, Commander Isls, "Bering Island".

Vernacular Names: Stejneger's Beaked Whale.

Distribution: North Pacific: cold-temperate waters; isolated population in the Sea of Japan.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Data Deficient.

Discussion: Reviewed by Loughlin and Perez (1985, Mammalian Species, 250) and J. G. Mead (1989 c).
