Thomasomys apeco Leo L. and Gardner 1993, Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash., 106: 417.

Type Locality: Perú, San Martín Dept., Parque Nacional Río Abiseo, ca. 25 km NE Pataz, Valle de Los Chochos, 3280 m.

Vernacular Names: Apeco Thomasomys.

Distribution: Known only from the type locality and vicinity, in upper montane forest, 3250-3380 m, NC Perú.

Discussion: The largest living thomasomyine as so far known; differentially compared with T. aureus and Megaoryzomys curioi, an extinct Pleistocene form from the Galapagos Isls.
