Relationship between Painted stork and Barringtonia acutangula
Description
Nesting is a very crucial process for the continuation of any individual’s race, breeding, and keeping the organism from becoming extinct. The population of painted storks is gradually decreasing due to the unavailability of tall trees for nesting and food in urban areas. In this aspect, the plantation of tall trees for the painted storks to build nests is very important for the conservation of their population. Keeping this problem in mind, an attempt has been made to observe the nesting habits of the storks in the Cuttack and Bhubaneswar cities of Odisha. Survey results revealed that a few nests of painted storks were found on Barringtonia acutangula from January to March 2024, as presented in this chapter. The present study recommends more plantations of B. acutangula for the protection of this wetland bird species.
