Comparative Analysis of Corpus-Based Word Frequency and Ageof-Acquisition in Cantonese Vocabulary Norms for Preschoolers
Description
The development of vocabulary in preschool children is crucial for their language acquisition and cognitive development.
Traditional studies on the age of acquisition (AoA) of words typically rely on adult ratings, which may not accurately reflect the
linguistic environment of preschool children. This study explores a novel approach by employing corpus-based analyses to
examine word frequency and AoA within Cantonese-speaking preschoolers in Hong Kong. This method provides a more direct
insight into the children's linguistic exposure and facilitates a better understanding of their language development.
