Abstract
The article raises the question of "author's" intonation as one of the aspects of the text content. Intonation is considered not only from the acoustic point of view, but first of all as a semantic category. The concept proposed in the article develops M.M. Bakhtin's ideas about authorial intonation as a means of formalising the semantic integrity of the text in contrast to other types of intonation present in external, sound speech. "Author's" intonation refers in the article to the sphere of subjective and figurative organisation of the text and represents the subjective center of the unity of form and content in the recipient's perception, the moment of their fusion in the "clot of meaning".
