Tourist mobility: Characteristics and differentiation from everyday mobility

  • 1. Institut für Tourismus- und Bäderforschung in Nordeuropa GmbH

Description

The aim of this paper is to provide a concise categorisation of tourism mobility and to build a bridge between transport and tourism research. To this end, a two-dimensional model of mobility is presented that illustrates the different forms of mobility in everyday life and tourism. The model shows that the boundaries between everyday mobility and tourist mobility are fluid and that a view of tourist mobility based purely on everyday journeys is inaccurate. As their destinations, frequencies and distances can differ greatly, the modelling of traffic flows and needs must take into account the temporal, spatial and organisational differences between everyday and tourist mobility
