Chramesus varius Wood, 1969: 4: new synonymy

Chramesus varius was distinguished from C. mimosa e primarily on the basis of color variations in the scales and distribution from central Mexico and southern Texas, respectively. In a long series collected by the author in southern Nuevo León the variation in color pattern completely encompassed both types. Recent collections have completely closed any geographic gaps (Fig. 2 D). It is clear that only a single species is represented. All reported hosts are legumes, including Mimosa sp., Acacia sp., and Leucaena pulverulenta. Based on collection localities, this species is found in or adjacent to thorn forests, probably in riparian habitats, from central Mexico to southern Texas.
