Impact of Mind-Body Practices on Physical and Mental Well-being in Athletes: A Comprehensive Review

Description

Abstract:

The research article provides an in-depth analysis of how mind-body activities affect the physical and mental well-being of athletes. Mind-body techniques such as yoga, mindfulness, and meditation are being recognised for their ability to enhance the overall development of athletes. This review examines the various impacts of these practices on physical fitness, injury prevention, and mental resilience within the athletic community by analysing literature published from 2010 to 2023. The study shows that including yoga into athletic training improves flexibility, lowers the chances of injury, and has a favourable impact on overall physical performance. Meditation and other mindfulness activities enhance mental resilience, attentional focus, and stress management in athletes. Specific meditation techniques have shown potential in providing neurocognitive advantages. Methodological issues emphasise the necessity of using standardised methodologies in upcoming research. The text discusses practical consequences for coaches and provides recommendations for future studies, highlighting the advantages of integrating mind-body activities into sports training programmes. This thorough analysis enhances the area of sports and exercise science by consolidating existing information and directing future research efforts.
