D4.8 – Interactive Visual Material for Workforce Training v2
Description
The COGITO Deliverable D4.8, "Interactive Visual Material for Workforce Training v2", documents the work done towards developing a VirtualSafety application that enables personalized safety education and learning for the construction workforce. The overall objective of this work is to implement a prototype for visual and interactive training materials using virtual environments.
The VirtualSafety application dynamically updates virtual training games through information streaming from the digital twin platform. The training scenarios in VirtualSafety are automatically created from the 4D BIM model, task information, and resource data provided by the digital twins. Therefore, construction workers can be trained in realistic training environments with relevant tasks they soon afterward pursue.
The game scene includes different hazards, such as fall hazard spaces or dynamic equipment. During the training, VirtualSafety collects information on how the player interacts with hazards. Based on Deliverable 4.4, algorithms evaluate the severity of hazards and provide personalized feedback to the player. The feedback overviews the performance in regard to safety awareness. Moreover, a trainer can view game results and compare players.
Dynamic virtual training is expected to be mutually beneficial for the Digital Twin Platform (DTP) and support periodic construction safety management. This deliverable demonstrates the functionalities of the VirtualSafety application and the conceptual components, namely a UI, an API, and a database. It technically introduces the concepts behind the development and illustrates the interaction with the UI.
