Establishment and Priority of Neospathodus bevelledi over Neospathodus yangtzeensis: Clarification and Recommendations for Future Nomenclature and Stratigraphic Naming

  • 1. ROR icon University of Zurich

Description

This comment addresses the taxonomic dispute over the priority and validity of Neospathodus bevelledi (Leu et al., 2022), in relation to Neospathodus yangtzeensis (Lyu et al., 2023). We refute the junior synonym claim made by Wu et al. (2024) based on the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) guidelines, highlight the formal publication and ZooBank registration of Ns. bevelledi and propose future nomenclatural corrections and biostratigraphic zone renaming. The initial mention of Ns. bevelledi in Leu's (2021) doctoral dissertation is acknowledged as an early indication of the species concept.
