Description

Antoniejanse sagittata (Bidzilya, 2019) comb. nov.

Figs 8, 9, 27, 36

Pseudotelphusa sagittata Bidzilya, 2019. In: Mey & Krüger: 276. Holotype (♂), in DMSA (examined).

Type material examined. Holotype ♂, RSA, Eastern Cape, Graaff-Reinet District, Asante-Sana Game Farm, Glen Haven, 8.xi.2012, leg. O. Bidzilya, gen. slide 271/17, O. Bidzilya (in DMSA). Paratypes: 1 ♂, 8 ♀, same data as for holotype but Zuurkloof, 5–14.xi.2012, gen. slide 30 / 13♀, 190/ 15♀, O. Bidzilya; 1 ♂, same data but Waterkloof, gen. slide 615/14, O. Bidzilya (all in MfN).

Diagnosis. Antoniejanse sagittata is characteristic in white forewing with black streak in fold and distinct black tornal spot on 3/4 of dorsal margin (A. mediopunctata sp. nov. has similar ground colour of the forewing, but differs in absent of black irroration in fold, instead presence of two brown spots in middle; also A. reducta is similar in having dark tornal spot, but fold is not marked with black). Male genitalia resemble those of A. tenebrosa sp. nov., but in A. sagittata sacculus is as wide as juxta processes; phallus is weakly curved. In A. tenebrosa sp. nov., sacculus is broader than juxta processes; phallus is strongly curved. The arrow-shaped signa are characteristic for the female genitalia of A. sagittata. Antoniejanse tenebrosa sp. nov. also has two arrow-like signa, but in this species the ductus bursae is shorter with indistinct transition to corpus bursae, and antrum is slightly longer than broad (3 times longer than broad in A. sagittata).

Redescription (Figs 8, 9). Wingspan 9.1–10.1 mm. Head light grey tipped with brown; frons white; labial palpus recurved, segment 2 of labial palpus black with white basal and apical ring, inner surface white, segment 3 white with black medial and apical ring, scape white mixed with light-brown; flagellum light-brown ringed with light-grey; thorax and tegulae white, tipped with brown; forewing white, distinct black suffusion along costal margin and in apical area, fold with long black interrupted streak, black tornal spot on 2/3 of dorsal margin, smaller black spot in middle near costal margin, fringes grey tipped with black; hindwing and fringes light-grey.

Male genitalia (Fig. 27). Uncus subtrapezoid, posteromedial incision short, slender; gnathos reduced; tegumen broad at base, distal part Narrow, subrectangular, anteromedial emargination very shallow; glandiductor absent; sacculus digitate, weakly curved, narrowed apically; juxta process as broad as sacculus, straight; phallus weakly curved, apically narrowed.

Female genitalia (Fig. 36). Papillae anales ovate, covered with hair-like setae; apophyses posteriores long, slender; sternum VIII twice broader than long, weakly sclerotized, unmodified; apophyses anteriores 2/3 length of and slightly thicker than apophyses posteriores; ductus bursae slender, with distinct transition to corpus bursae; antrum funnel-shaped, distinctly longer than broad; corpus bursae ovate, signa as a paired arrow-shaped plate.

Biology. Larval stages and hostplant unknown. Adults have been collected in November.

Distribution. South Africa: Eastern Cape Province.
