La Shoah insegnata: la Giornata della Memoria in Italia | Teaching the Shoah: Holocaust Memorial Day in Italy

After the introduction of the “Holocaust Memorial Day”, the educational policies of the European states have been developed differently. How is this day addressed in Italy? The paper presents the results obtained from research activities carried out between 2021 and 2022, through an anonymous questionnaire to Italian teachers, investigated the educational approaches to understand whether they give meaning to learning and have an impact on the students' reality contexts. Lower secondary school was examined as the history of the twentieth century is taught for the first time in a formalized and structured way. The article ends with educational reflections on how the themes of the Shoah can be included in a three-year educational programming and how it is possible to connect the topics to contemporary issues within multicultural classes.
