Description of the main husbandry systems used for turkey farming in the EU

Description
The purpose of this deliverable is to give insight into the main features of turkey farming in Europe, which can aid in identifying the major welfare risks in turkey production and support the drafting of future specific legislation on the rearing of turkeys.
The categories of turkeys considered in this deliverable are the following;
· Turkey poults which means young turkeys from hatch until the end of the brooding period.
· Commercial turkeys or broiler turkeys, which means turkeys raised for meat production.
· Turkey breeders which means turkeys kept for the production of eggs from which the commercial turkeys hatch.
