Catheterisation of the jugular vein of 12-day-old suckling piglets group-housed with littermates and the sow

Description

This paper is a method paper describing the procedure and complications of jugular vein catheterization of 12 days old suckling piglets. This study aimed to demonstrate the longer-term benefits of the catheter. This study shows that permanent catheterization of the jugular vein can be successfully used in young suckling piglets to obtain high-quality blood samples frequently and without stress, while maintaining group housing with littermates and sow.
