Description
(Figs. 48a–d)
[Key locator: Key to Group A species, couplet 18’]
Heteragrion makiritare: De Marmels 2004: 439–458 (description and diagnosis of ♁ from Venezuela; comparison with H. ictericum; figs. 1–8);— Garrison et al. 2010: 88, 91 (list of Heteragrion species; figs. 391–392);— Vivas-Santeliz & De Marmels 2017: 50 (species endemic to Venezuela).
Material examined. None. Examined through original description and holotype images (holotype housed at MIZA).
Known distribution. Southeastern Venezuela.
Diagnosis and remarks. Although its IUCN Red List assessment classifies H. makiritare as Least Concern, the evaluation needs updating (as indicated in the annotations section in the IUCN’s website), as this species is known from only two localities, not collected since 1985 (De Marmels 2004; von Ellenrieder 2009b). The following character combination distinguishes this species from the remainder of Group A species: BP expanded ventrally, forming a hollow concavity (Fig. 48d); ML forming a broad plate (Figs. 48c–d); ML ridge short, bearing small teeth, not reaching ML apex (Fig. 48c); AP margin bearing a small basal swelling (Fig. 48d).
