Castnius Hubner 1819

Description

CASTNIUS HÜBNER, [1819] (FIGS 5, 6)

Type species

Papilio pelasgus Cramer, [1779]

Included species

Castnius pelasgus (Cramer, [1779]), Castnius marcus (Jordan, 1908), and C. asteropoides Porion, 2004.

Comments

Two synapomorphic characters, the sacculus as an anterior projection (47: 1) and rectangular (48: 3), plus the homoplastic characters related to wing venation and morphology of the aedeagus and valva, support the arrangement of this genus. We must note, however, that C. asteropoides was not included in the analysis.
