  • 1. Armed Forces Hospital Southern Region

Description

The Saudization program, a pivotal policy initiative in Saudi Arabia, aims to increase the employment of Saudi nationals in various sectors, including healthcare. This study investigates the impact of the Saudization program among nurses in a selected military hospital in Saudi Arabia, situated at the intersection of specialized healthcare and national security. The purpose of this qualitative-descriptive research is to explore the experiences, perspectives, and outcomes of nurses affected by the Saudization program within a military healthcare setting. Qualitative methods were employed, with semi-structured interviews serving as the primary data collection tool. Thematic analysis was applied to the interview transcripts to identify recurring themes and patterns. The thematic analysis revealed several key themes, including changes in workforce composition, challenges in recruitment and training, shifts in patient care dynamics, and the impact on healthcare quality. Nurses' responses ranged from apprehension to optimism regarding the program's effects on their professional roles and the quality of healthcare services. The discussion contextualizes the findings within the broader framework of Saudization in healthcare and the unique characteristics of military hospitals. It addresses the delicate balance between nationalization efforts and maintaining the highest standards of care in specialized healthcare settings. The impact of the Saudization program on nurses in military hospitals is complex, with multifaceted implications for healthcare quality, national security, and workforce dynamics. This study underscores the need for strategic planning, ongoing support, and tailored policies to optimize the program's outcomes in the military healthcare sector.
