Verso un sistema energetico italiano basato sulle fonti rinnovabili

Description

The purpose of this paper is to assess the general feasibility of an Italian energy system completely based on renewable energy sources. In particular, we wanted to quantify the size required for the contribution of photovoltaics and wind power, and the problems associated with the intermittency of these sources, both on a circadian and annual scale. Thus, a hypothetical production profile, based on actual productivity data from existing plants for each of the 8760 hours that make up a year, was compared with the consumption profile derived, with some assumptions, from the actual 2019 consumption profile.
The comparison is based on a different model and assumptions in relation to possible strategies to address the problem.
Thus, the work is not an energy plan or design of a real energy system, but merely a tool to provide quantitative indications of the expected size and problems that this system will face.
