Description

Loneura occidentalis n. sp.

(Figs 76–87)

Diagnosis. Similar to L. altaquerensis, from which it differs in having the areola postica distinctly narrower, in having the posterior processes of the hypandrium distally dilated, and in having the mesal processes of the hypandrium slender (Fig. 79). Also the endophallic sclerites are quite distinct in both species (compare Figs 33 and 81).

Male. Color. Body light brown, with brown spots as indicated below. Head light brown, pattern (Fig. 78), an ochre band from each compound eye to the epistomal sulcus; genae dark brown; postgenae light brown. Compound eyes black, ocelli hyaline, with ochre centripetal crescents. Postclypeus light brown, with ochre V-shaped area; anteclypeus and labrum light brown. Maxillary palps light brown, Mx4 dark brown distally. Antennae light brown, flagellomeres 1–3 with apices cream. Thorax pale brown, pronotum and tergal lobes of meso- and metathorax pale brown, propleura with brown spots. Legs light brown, tarsi 2–3 dark brown, femora with distal brown spots. Wings hyaline (Figs 76, 77). Forewing pterostigma hyaline, with proximal and distal brown bands (Fig. 76); veins light brown, with brown areolae in setal insertions; dark brown spots on vein ends at wing margin. Hindwing (Fig. 77) veins with brown spots at wing margin. Abdomen light brown, clunium pale brown. Hypandrium pale brown; epiproct and paraprocts light brown. Phallosome brown, with endophallic sclerites dark brown.

Morphology. Head (Fig. 78): H/MxW: 1.44; H/d: 3.59; IO/MxW: 0.74. Vertex at the same level as the upper border of the compound eyes. Outer cusp of lacinial tips broad, with four short and widely rounded denticles. Mx4/ Mx2: 1.44. Forewings (Fig. 76): L/W: 2.57. Pterostigma: lp/wp: 3.98, areola postica tall, narrow, apically rounded: la/ha: 1.17, R4+5 sinuous, M six-branched, M6 forked. Hindwings (Fig. 77): l/w: 2.97; M two-branched. Hypandrium (Fig. 79), posterior processes constricted in the middle, distally dilated; phallosome Y-shaped anteriorly, side struts slender; external parameres laminar, apex rounded, bearing pores and sclerotized short teeth (Fig. 81); four pairs of endophallic sclerites, anterior pair transverse, joined to elongated, straight and thick lateral sclerites, directed inwards, converging posteriorly, internal sclerites wide distally; mesal pair anteriorly wide, distally curved outwards; postero-mesal sclerites laminar, anteriorly broad, narrowing posteriorly, curved, with two teeth apically. Paraprocts (Fig. 80) robust, almost triangular, with distal setal field and macrosetae as illustrated; sensory fields with 28 trichobothria on basal rosettes. Epiproct (Fig. 80) semioval, with short and long setae, two lateral macrosetae, a setal field on posterior border and a posterior field of microspicules.
