Cryptalaus rotundoextremus (Vats & Kashyap, 1992) comb. nov.
Chalcolepis rotundoextremus Vats & Kashyap, 1992: 195 (original description; type locality: Mohan, Ramnagar, Nainital district, Uttarakhand, India); Cate, 2007: 208 (placed in Elateridae as species incertae sedis).
Distribution. INDIA: Uttarakhand.
Remarks. The genus Chalcolepis Candèze, 1857 is found in the American region and the morphological characters mentioned in the original description are not like those of Chalcolepis (Casari 2008). It is clear from the original description that the species should be transferred to the genus Cryptalaus and thus, we propose Cryptalaus rotundoextremus (Vats & Kashyap, 1992) comb. nov. Interestingly, this species comes closer to Cryptalaus lynceus (Candèze, 1874) in morphological characters and habitus photographs (see Vats & Kashyap 1992; Parekar & Patwardhan 2021). Both these species are only known from female specimens and are from North India region. A thorough examination of the holotype of this species is needed to elucidate their taxonomic relationship with each other.
