Substantial C20 fatty acid production is evidenced by comparison of the gas chromatograms of untransformed A. thaliana (A) and a pCB302.3-Δ Δ 9 8 transformant (B). ALA: OE-linolenic acid (18:3 Δ9,12,15), LA: Linoleic acid (18:2 Δ9,12). Numbered peaks are as follows: 1: Eicosadienoic acid (20:2 Δ11,14); 2: DGLA; 3: Eicosatrienoic acid (20:3 Δ11,14,17); 4: Eicosatetraenoic acid (20:4 Δ8,11,14,17).
