Description

Figure 1. A, maximum likelihood tree of the genus Otomys based on sequences of the Cytb. B, distribution of major clades based on genotyped samples. The numbers above branches show ML bootstrap support of particular clades. Colours of symbols on the map correspond to bars on the right side of the tree. The shades of grey on the map indicate elevation. The green background shapes represent major mountain blocks in central and eastern Africa: Cameroon volcanic line (CVL), Ethiopian Highlands (EH), Kenyan Highlands (KH), Eastern Arc Mountains (EAM), Albertine Riss Mountains (ARM), and Southern Riss Mountains (SRM). Ethiopian taxa (all endemic to EH) are clustered in two clades (the TYPUS and SIMIENSIS groups) and are highlighted by pink colour on the tree.
