109. Sciapus albovittatus Strobl, 1909 (Sciapodinae) — new to Portugal

Number of specimens recorded. 21.

Distribution. Thus far only recorded from Spain and North Africa. Portugal: one province (Douro Litoral) in this study, and Algarve (Dyte unpubl. data).

Ecology. In Portugal, this species has been collected in fair numbers in agricultural land (with greenhouses) on sandy soil, and in an area with a mosaic of habitats from dunes to forest, riparian corridors and agricultural fields; one specimen was retrieved from a sandy spit at the mouth of the river Douro. Its ecology in the rest of its distribution range is unknown.

Rarity (%). 3.4 (rare).

Activity period. June, (mainly) August.
