Assessing Data Management Needs and Practices to Enable Research Data Support Services

  • 1. University of Florida

Description

Faculty, students, and staff are faced with many data management challenges resulting from the need to comply with data management and sharing requirements of funding agencies. While major funding agencies such as the American Heart Association (AHA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) have data management and sharing requirements guidelines and/or statements for researchers seeking funding, faculty, students, and staff struggle with complying, fulfilling, and negotiating data lifecycle management. This presentation articulates select data management activities and survey results, current efforts, and future plans to further develop a culture of data management at UF.

Notes

The data survey (UF IRB #201602303) was adapted and developed from a previous UF data survey and select Data Asset Framework (DAF) questions. The Data Management and Curation Working Group contributed to the work underlying this presentation with on-going collaborative support from the UF Informatics Institute, UF/IFAS, UF Research Computing, UF College of Engineering, and UF Office of Research.
