Description
Presentation of the extended abstract at the TODO International Conference on Open Data in Zagreb, Croatia on 29 November 2022. Open data has various potential benefits, including stimulating innovation, enhancing accountability and transparency, and improving the reproducibility and dissemination of academic research. However, current open data initiatives have various shortcomings, including the mismatch between the supply and demand of open data and the lack of its reuse. To address these weaknesses, the role of open data intermediaries in facilitating the use of and access to open data is considered instrumental. Nevertheless, some literature noted the lack of development of their business models, which may compromise their long-term survival. Before their business models can be further developed, a clear view of the existing business models is needed. Hence, the objective of this extended abstract is to review current business models of open data intermediaries in academic literature.
