SOLIFLY Public Workshop - Potential of structural battery energy storage at aircraft level & Next Chapter: MATISSE

Authors/Creators

  • 1. AIT Austrian Institute of Technology

Description

SOLIFLY structural batteries, further optimized, show the potential of storing up to 1 kWh of electric energy per liter or kg added weight. For aircraft up from general aviation to regional size (up to 100 pax) a substantial amount of energy, even supporting hybrid electric propulsion, could be stored, at the same time reducing the aircraft weight by 6-10 kg per passenger.

However, numerous questions still need to be answered in the field of multifunctional electrial energy storage, some of which, building upon SOLIFLY results, the HORIZON project MATISSE is tackling.
