Description

The Beschorner Cross, also known as the "Favoritner Plague Column", was donated by Laurenz and Walburga Beschorner after a plague epidemic in 1679 to thank them for the end of the plague. The square sandstone Trinity Column stands on a pedestal, on top there is a sculpture of the crowned Trinity in the form of a mercy seat. On the pillar there are dedication inscriptions on the front and back. The column was restored several times in 1772 and 1797. During the Second World War the shaft was damaged and the group of figures was destroyed. The column was restored according to old photographs in 1979 by the sculptor Heribert Rath. The original was brought to the Bezirksmuseum Favoriten and replaced by a copy at the same location. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
