Phoenix from the ashes: Papenstrasse Quarter in Tribsees
Description
Tribsees is a small urban community in the rural landscape of northeastern Germany. The town, planted in the 13th century, shows significant scars from its recent history. Economic decline and technological changes in agriculture have led to depopulation and the decay of the urban structure. While attempts to revitalize the area are facilitated by planning authorities and private stakeholders, students from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences worked on a semester project focusing on one of the quarters of the medieval town centre. The students were to explore ways of sustainable renewal of small-town urban structures by merging layers of history with contemporary architecture and the requirements for energy efficiency and sustainability.
