Atlanticolycus itatiaia Nascimento & Bocakova 2023, sp. nov.

Description

Atlanticolycus itatiaia sp. nov.

(Figs. 4, 11–12)

Type material. Holotype, male, BRAZIL: BR, RJ, PN do Itatiaia; Rio Tapera, próx. ao abrigo 3; 22°27’17,4”S 44°36’26,1”W; 10.iv. 2015, 784m, IT207; L.L. Dumas, J.L. Nessimian col. (DZUP).

Diagnosis: Eye diameter 1.5× longer than interocular distance. Maxillary palpomere 2 about 2.6× longer than 3. Pronotum 1.25× wider than long, median longitudinal carina in apical 1/3 bifurcating medially forming areola mostly at posterior 2/3, connected to the posterior margin by a very short carina. Elytra dark brown, with a yellow median semicircular spot (Fig. 4). Male genitalia with phallus curved in basal 1/3 and apical 2/3 straight in lateral view, with curved apical double projections dorsally-oriented and apex ventrally bent (Fig. 11a, b); parameres straight in ventral view (Fig. 12), with ventral subapical and apical thorns (Fig. 11c).

Description: Maxillary palpomeres brown, basal 3/4 of palpomere 2 yellow. Trochanters yellow, basal 1/3 of median femur yellow. Pronotum dark brown with lateral and anterior sides yellow. Elytra dark brown, with a short portion of the humeral region and a median semicircular spot yellowish (Fig. 4).

Eye diameter 1.5× longer than interocular distance. Antennomeres 3−5 almost of the same length. Maxillary palpomere 2 as long as 4, 2.6× longer than 3. Pronotum 1.25× wider than long, median longitudinal carina bifurcating in anterior 1/3 forming areola mostly at posterior 2/3, connected to the posterior margin by a very short carina. Prosternum trapezoidal, mesoventrite trapezoidal. Elytra 3.8× longer than humeral width, intercostal intervals with irregular cells. Hind femora 2.6× longer than trochanter length. Male genitalia with short phallus, curved in basal 1/3 and apical 2/3 straight in lateral view, with curved apical double projections dorsally-oriented and apex ventrally bent (Figs. 11a, b); parameres elongate, almost as long as phallus, straight in ventral view, apically rounded with ventral subapical and apical thorns (Fig. 11c), joined basally by a ring-like bridge, phallobase asymmetrical and as long as half of parameres length (Fig. 11–12). Body length: 5.9 mm, humeral width: 1.3 mm.

Etymology: The specific name is a noun in apposition taken from the type locality, Itatiaia National Park.

Distribution: Brazil: Southeastern region, Rio de Janeiro state, Itatiaia municipality (Fig. 19).
