Wmid-5ac3b1 2018t143 - Modified strap end
Description
A complete early medieval copper-alloy strap-end with rear hook attachment, decorated with a silver sheet applique. The strap-end is teardrop-shaped in plan with a zoomorphic terminal and split attachment end, comprising two integral plates and two rivet holes complete with silver rivets. The zoomorphic terminal comprises an animal's head with a rounded snout, slit-like mouth and raised elongated ears, executed in relief. The eyes are also in light relief and are rounded. On the upper face of the object is a thin silver applique decorated with a face with circular eyes and incised brow, nose, mouth and chin.
At the rear of the strap end is an integral copper-alloy hook that projects at a 90 degree angle and then folds upwards towards the upper terminal and silver rivets. This is placed in the lower half of the rear face.
